Despite the wind and the rain, Decatur residents and businesses put on quite a display of holiday lights and décor! You’ll see a wide variety of decorating styles in Decatur this year- everything from classic white lights and greenery to vintage Santa cut outs and inflatable snowmen. You’ll even find a huge, candle-lit menorah complete with the Toy Story dinosaur and pig!
This year’s Commissioners Cup winner mixed colorful lights, adorable inflatables, and festive greenery. Congratulations to our friends and neighbors at 208 Mead Road!
Nine other homes took home Decorate Decatur prizes as well this year and are listed and pictured in no particular order below
Congratulations to all of our winners and Happy Holidays!

I am disappointed that the people who judged the decorating ignored 403 South McDonough Street. It doesn’t take a lot to put lights and blowup decorations all over a yard. I tried to do something different – peaceful and calm but I guess Decatur isn’t ready for that. I will taken my reindeer and stars elsewhere. Ann J. Herrera.
Ann, Thanks for writing in and letting us know of your frustration. We use different judges each year and it is a difficult decision for them every time. I always love riding by your house because it always looks great – I still remember the fabulous lighted bicycle you had up one time. I hope you will continue to decorate in spite of the fact that the judges made other choices this year. Linda H.
I agree with you Ann. The judges are probably the same one’s that oversee the crappy decoration’s in Downtown Decatur. Our tax dollar’s at waste again
I don’t envy the judges’ task, there were a lot of great decorations in Decatur this year. It’s always interesting to see what catches their fancy. Like Ann, I also try to do something a little different. Sometimes the judges notice, sometimes not. My neighbors always notice, though, so it’s worth the effort for me.
I’ve enjoyed in the past when neighborhoods who went all out were recognized. We didn’t rally the troops on Adair Street this year, but we’ll come back strong in 2013!
156 Vidal Blvd, really?
